In this study, we demonstrated thin silica-coated and assembled Ag NPs (SiO2@Ag@SiO2 NPs) for simultaneous and quantitative detection of chemicals that have different intrinsic affinities to silver metal. SiO2@Ag@SiO2 was applied for detecting both aniline (low affinity with Ag) and 4-Aminothiphenol (high affinity with Ag). First, Ag NPs was reduced and assembled on the surface of SiO2 by octylamine in ethylene glycol, following by coating with a thin silica shell with thickness of 4-5 nm. As a result, The SiO2@Ag@SiO2 could detect aniline and 4-ATP up to 93 ppm and 54 ppb, respectively. Also, the SiO2@Ag@SiO2 were able to detect non-thiol moiety within a mixture of thiol-based molecule. For real application, the SiO2@Ag@SiO2 based aniline detection was performed to river- and tap-water successfully. Detection utilizing SiO2@Ag@SiO2 have a possibility to expands the flexibility of SERS for simple practical tool. |
