Development of Biodegradable Mg stent for cardiovascular Treatments |

The major cause of heart attack is thought to be Atherosclerosis. Many stents are developed to deal with this major disease. Either bare metal stents are used, or drug eluting stents are employed. In any case, the in-stent restenosis and reocclusion rates are very high. This may lead to long-term endothelial dysfunction, late thrombosis, toxic metal ion release, and local chronic inflammation. Biodegradable metal stents are a promising candidate to deal with these problems. Out of many metals used for this purpose Mg based biodegradable stents have attracted many researchers due to the plethora of benefits. Yet there are some problems associated with Mg-based biodegradable metal stents. These problems can be eliminated by employing various methods. The corrasion problem can be addressed by protecting the surface by various coating of polymers. Restenosis can be delt by inculcation medicine on the surface of stent which can be eluted gradually. The purpose of this study is to develop an Mg-metal based stent that can be used for the treatment of cardiovascular problems. |
