In this study, Atorvastatin calcium (AT) and Fenofibrate (FE) were used as model drugs for the complex formulation. AT was the extended layer, and FE was the immediate layer. AT was prepared as a solid dispersion by spray drying method to improve the solubility and FE was prepared by physical mixture. Characterizations of the prepared spray dryer and physical mixture were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder x-ray diffractometer (PXRD) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) were used to analyze the crystallinity of the sample. The in vitro release behavior of presented intestinal juice (pH 6.8). This study suggests the complex formulation with the extended release layer (AT) and the immediate release layer (FE).
