The present study aims to prepare dual active heterogeneous Fenton catalysts using naturally abundant bentonite clay. Initially, Fe-pillared clay was synthesized by employing wet impregnation method. Further, the Fe-pillared clay was successfully incorporated with manganese to obtain dual metal heterogeneous catalysts. The catalyst obtained was characterized with the help of SEM-EDX, BET, XRD and FT-IR analyses. The SEM has shown the changes in surface morphology of bentonite after the introduction of iron as well as manganese particles. The BET specific surface area, pore volume and pore size were obtained and the N2 isotherm exhibit type IV isotherm with a characteristic hysteresis loop. Moreover, a diffraction peak corresponding to basal spacing of the 001 plane was significantly decreased after the incorporation of iron particles which suggests a significant increase in interlayer space of pillared clay. |
