Rapid decolorization of methylene blue using iron oxide pillared bentonite clay as a highly active nanocatalyst |
초록 |
Iron-oxide pillared clay was prepared and employed as a nanocatalyst for decolorization of methylene blue in aqueous solutions. It was very interesting to discover that the iron oxide clay nanocatalyst (ICN) is a highly active catalyst for rapid decolorization of methylene blue without hydrogen peroxide and in absence of light. The ICN was found to degrade 90 % of aqueous methylene blue (20 mg/L) within 10 minutes of contact time. Moreover, the material was found to be efficient within the pH ranges from pH 3.0 to 11.0 and a wide range of initial concentrations. In order to recognize the catalytic reaction pathway, the effect of scavengers in the degradation of methylene blue was analyzed using variety of scavengers. Further, the reusability of ICN was evaluated under batch studies using NaCl as reactivator and found that the ICN nanocatalyst can be reused for several times. |
