A novel way of highly porous Poly(-caproctone) scaffolds with tightly controlled porous structure using non-solvent induced phase separation based 3D plotting |

In this study porous poly(ε-caprolactone) scaffolds were produced by non-solvent induced phase separation based 3D plotting and their porous structure was evaluated. Particularly, a tetrahydrofuran and ethanol were employed as a solvent and non-solvent of PCL polymer, respectively. A PCL/THF solution with various concentration (14wt%, 18wt%, 22wt%) of PCL was deposited in ethanol bath to rapidly solidify PCL frameworks through exchange of solvent and non-solvent. All of the fabricated PCL scaffolds showed well-controlled macrochannels by predetermined design using a 3D software. Furthermore, the internal porous structure of the PCL scaffolds were strongly enhanced concentration of PCL, lower concentration of PCL showed relatively dense wall between the each pores owing to rapid exchange of solvent and non-solvent. The overall porosity of the PCL scaffolds was slightly decreased from 75.8±1.9 to 72.2± 4.5 µm with increasing the concentration of PCL from 14wt% to 22wt%. However, the ultimate tensile strength and elastic modulus of the PCL scaffolds were increased from 1.19 ± 0.19 MPa to 2.08 ±0.23 MPa and 6.77±0.67 MPa to 14.43±2.59 MPa, respectively. |
