Spiropyran (SP) exhibits its unique photochromic switching behavior reversibly between the colorless SP form under visible light and the colored and fluorescent merocyanine (MC) form upon UV irradiation. SP-MC switching is driven by UV light, pH, heat, and mechanical force. Recent development of novel functional materials by SP-containing molecular moieties enabled potential technological applications such as data recording, optical and electrical switching devices, etc. Reversible fluorescence photoswitching has also been demonstrated in the polymeric nanoparticles and likewise, this can be applied as potential bio-sensing platforms. Herein, we developed synthetic routes to novel spiropyran-based hyperbranched amphiphilic polymers (SP-HBPs) containing multiple hydroxyl (OH) groups. Their structures and properties have been fully characterized by means of various instrumental analysis techniques. |
