Applications of bioelectrochemical systems using electrode associated electrogenic biofilm |
초록 |
The novel applications of bioelectrochemical systems with elecgtrochemically active biofilm on electrode have been studied for bioelectricity generation and platform chemical production. Recently, the combination of metabolic engineering with electrogenic microorganisms such as Shewanella sp and Geobacter sp. has been extensively investigated to convert oxidized chemicals into more reduced value-added products as these species can transfer electrons directly to electrodes through a process called extracellular electron transfer (EET). This approach provides a platform to control internal redox status of the cells. In this study, we report the recent development of electrode interfaced microbe and its implication for metabolic engineering. The potential application of the biofilm for regulation of internal cell metabolism will be discussed. |
