Biohybrid Materials with Clustered Silver Nanoparticles for Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering Based Bioimaging |

Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has been of interest for development of biosensors and bioimaging tools. Specifically, aggregates of Ag and Au nanoparticles produce SERS signal many orders higher than single nanoparticles. We have developed biohybrid materials having clustered silver nanoparticles with Raman labels as well as cancer targeting moieties for SERS-based bioimaging. Raman labels induced aggregation of single silver nanoparticles producing silver nanoclusters, encapsulated in poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid)s by electrohydrodynamic jetting. A variety of cancer targeting moieties can be introduced to produce biohybrid materials. The silver nanoclusters in biohybrid materials have controllable SERS sensitivity depending on their density as well as higher chemical stability, biocompatibility and reproducibility as compared to the bare silver nanoclusters. The biohybrid materials with the silver nanoclusters can have a potential for advanced SERS-based bioimaging. |
