Synthesis of Mesoporous Biotemplate Structure for SERS-based Sepsis Diagnosis |

Searching for a new substrate for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a frontier area for SERS-based sensing application. A biotemplate structure draws interest due to its structural regularity and facile production. In this study, genetically modified bacteriophage M13 was utilized as a template for making mesoporous, magnetic structure with plasmonic property. Densely packed gold nanoparticles attached on silicated M13 phage formed plasmon coupling effect, which significantly enhance the Raman signal. With the plasmonic structure, three protein biomarkers for sepsis was detected simultaneously with Raman-dye-attached immunogold. The sensitivity and specificity of the system was confirmed, and the limit of detection was ~100 fM. |
