Block or grafted copolymer blends have the ability to build various self-assembled nanostructures. We have studied the ternary polymer blend system with an amphiphilic block copolymer by applying the blend for the active layer of the nanofiltration membrane. This layer was prepared by layer-by-layer processing, which the supporting membrane was alternatively dipped into the polymer solutions. Due to the different solubility of the polymers used for the blend, we have used the mixed solvent system for the dipping process. The deposited layers on the supporting membrane created nano-porous structure induced by annealing and selective etching of one of the polymers in the layered coating. We have characterized the layered coating by SEM, AFM and contact angle analysis. Advantageously, the active layer coating prevented the formation of bio-film, i.e. anti-fouling effect, as the comparison of the bare supporting membrane. |
