Development of Novel Homogeneous Catalyst for the Oxidation of methane |

Selective C-H activation of methane to methanol or its precursor is an important issue both from a practical and academic standpoint. Recently, methane oxidation to methylbisulfate in oleum media attracted great attention by the development of highly active homogeneous Pt catalysts K2PtCl4 and (DMSO)2PtCl2. However, lots of challenges associated with the use of strong acid remains in the commercialization of this method. One way of avoiding such problems is using of less acidic solvent like CF3CO2H or CH3CO2H. In the methane oxidation in CF3CO2H, the product is CF3CO2CH3 which can be hydrolyzed to methanol and CF3CO2H. Various kinds of organometallic Pd compounds having CF3CO2 or NHC ligands were reported but their TONs were less than 50. In this study, we introduce our new homogeneous Pd catalyst having TON over 300. We found this high catalytic activity of the new Pd catalyst is related with its higher stability in reaction media. |
