Redox balancing to improve the production of butyric acid and hexanoic acid from renewable bioresource |
초록 |
There has been increased interest in biological production of biofuels and chemicals from renewable bioresource. Butyric acid (C4 acid) and hexanoic acid (C6 acid) are valuable chemicals applicable in various fields such as food, animal feed additive, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and precursors of butanol and hexanol, respectively. Strict anaerobic Clostridium species have been investigated for efficient production of C4~C6 acids. A critical concern in biological production of C4~C6 acids is the need to balance the demand and supply of reducing equivalents such as NAD(P)H. Yield and selectivity are also dependent on NAD(P)H availability. This presentation will focus on i) the enhancement of C4 acid production by manipulating the redox balance with reduced substrates and ii) efficient hexanoic acid production with a newly isolated acetogen strain under mixotrophic conditions. |
