CO2, a major component of greenhouse gases causing global warming, has become a widespread concern in the recent years. Among the various technologies for CO2 capture, membrane process utilizing facilitated transport phenomena becomes one of the most effective technologies. This is because CO2 transport will be facilitated due to carrier-mediated transport in addition to normal Fickian transport, resulting in both higher permeability and selectivity. Moreover, another advantage of the facilitated transport membrane is that the permeability is higher even at a low pressure. In this presentation, we investigated potassium cations as a CO2 carrier to achieve high selectivity of CO2/N2. KF dissolved in a polyvinyl pyrrolidone was attempted as a novel CO2 carrier for the first time, showing enhanced the CO2 permeance in polymeric matrix. |
