Spray-assisted layer-by-layer self-assembly of polyelectrolytes/graphene oxide nanofilms for enhanced CO2/N2 selectivity |

CO2 gas is the main contributor to global warming and separation of CO2 from mixed gas is of interest due to increasing environmental concerns. Among the various separation method, membrane-based separation method has advantages in low cost and simple operation. Here, we introduce layer-by-layer assembled multilayered graphene oxide membrane for CO2/N2 selectivity. The thickness and internal structure of polyelectrolytes/graphene films were precisely controlled by adjusting electrostatic interaction. The polyelectrolytes layers supported the selective graphene oxide layer as a matrix layer and facilitated CO2 transportation by reversible interaction. Moreover, aligned a few nanometer thick graphene oxide layers provide selective pathway for CO2 molecules. The separation performance was influenced by the thickness of graphene oxide layers. The maximum CO2/N2 selectivity was 15.3 and permeances of CO2 and N2 were 1175.0 GPU and 76.6 GPU respectively. |
