Rheological properties of different liquid rubbers filled with fumed silica |

Fumed silicas are frequently employed to improve the mechanical properties and dimensional stabilities of polymers. Fumed silicas having aggregate structures of nano size silica particles are also used to impart thixotropy and to control rheological properties of liquid resin systems for electronic parts. We have investigated rheological properties of different liquid rubbers filled with fumed silicas. Liquid rubbers employed as matrix of fumed silicas in this study were prepared from a commercially available carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile copolymer (CTBN). CTBN was chemically modified by various epoxy resin to study interactions between different matrices and fumed silica. Rheological properties of the liquid rubber suspensions were studied employing a parallel plate rheometer(AR2000, TA) in rotational mode at 25°C. We found that the silica filled liquid rubbers show very different yield behaviors depending on the chemical modification of CTBN. |
