Mercury, which exists in various forms, need appropriate pre-treatment methods in order to analyze with cold vapour atomic absorption spectrometry (CVAAS) method. Since mercury is a volatile substance, and free chlorines have coinciding detection wavelengths, positive interferences can occur. Thus, for an accurate analysis of mercury, efficient removal of the interfering elements are needed. In order to remove these interfering factors, various oxidizers are used. Various samples with different oxidizing agents and acid solutions were analyzed for their mercury concentrations. The results were compared in order to evaluate their efficiencies on complete extraction of mercury and removal of interfering elements. |
