Nanoscale optical characterization of polychromatic CdxZn1-xO nanorods prepared by simple chemical methods |

Multiple-color-emission CdxZn1-xO nanorods were prepared on Si substrate by simple chemical methods such as a hydrothermal and a sol-gel method. Pure ZnO nanorods were gradually covered with CdxZn1-xO having various Cd mole fraction ranging from 0 to 1. The CdxZn1-xO nanorods were then dispersed on a glass substrate. The luminescence and absorbance property of the dispersed single CdxZn1-xO nanorod was measured by using confocal photoluminescence and nano-absorption spectroscopy that displayed obviously the gradient of the emission color and absorption along the single CdxZn1-xO nanorod according to the mole fraction gradient of Cd. Excellent white-light-emission was observed from the CdxZn1-xO nanorods. The absorption and optical band gap was also gradually changed with increasing Cd mole fraction along the CdxZn1-xO nanorods. |
