Production of commodity chemicals now persued in carbon-neutral manner. For this, enzymatic process is important than ever. In this study, we aimed to produce 9,10-dihydroxystearic acid which can be applied to the production of various medium chain fatty acids. 9,10-epoxystearic acid was produced by breaking the (C9-C10) double bond of oleic acid using Candida antarctica Lipase B (CalB) and hydrogen peroxide. After the hydrolysis of 9,10-epoxystearic acid using epoxide hydrolase, 9,10-dihydroxystearic acid was produced. We confirmed the production of 9,10-epoxystearic acid and 9,10-dihydroxystearic acid by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and LC-MS. Further enzymatic treatment for 9,10-dihydroxystearic acid will be studied to produce medium chain fatty acids. |
