Nano-composite materials are attracting attention due to its improved properties. In particular, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can produce conductive composites, with low addition amount compared to common carbon/polymer composites. Polypropylene (PP), which is one of the most widely used thermoplastics in many fields, tends to be applied as insulating/semi-conducting material for power cables. The semi-conducting material for power cables consists of polymer matrix and carbon blacks. In order to reduce the thickness of the semi-conducting layer, we have considered the introduction of CNTs that can provide equivalent levels of conductivity in small amounts. In this study, we compared the properties of carbon black (CB)/polypropylene (PP) with those of carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/PP conductive composites. |
