Synthesis of visible light responsive black titanium dioxide (TiO2) using hydrogen as reducing agent was first reported in 2011. Here we demonstrate electrochemical approach using anodization and electrochromism subsequently in order to fabricate blue and black colored TiO2 for usage as photoanode. 10 μM of methylene blue was treated under photoelectrochemical (PEC), electrochemical (EC), and photocatalytic (PC) condition with either visible (VL) or ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. 97 % and 82 % of methylene blue were degraded using Black TiO2 in PEC configuration under UV and VL irradiation. Mott-schottky plot shows that the Black TiO2 has higher charge carrier density compared to the Blue TiO2. Direct Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS) analysis indicates that Black and Blue TiO2 possess band gap of 1.41 and 2.47 eV respectively. Samples were further characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). |
