Cus/CdS/TiO2 nanoarray structures: Enhanced water splitting |

Photoanodes prepared using CuS/CdS double-sensitized TiO2 nanocable array were fabricated by a solution-based process for constructing a photo-driven hydrogen generation system. In this method, TiO2 nanorods were fabricated directly on conducting glass substrates (FTO) via low-cost hydrothermal. Then CdS layer was prepared by chemical bath deposition method. Finally, CuS layer was formed on the surface of CdS via ion exchange reaction thereafter. A tandem energy bands structure of CdS/CuS was also formed as a result of the Fermi level alignment, which is a benefit to the efficient separation of the photogenerated charges. The morphologies and compositions of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The photovoltaic performance of the double-sensitized TiO2 nanocable in photoelectrochemical solar cell was evaluated by ability of water splitting with three electrode configuration. An improved conversion efficiency of 6.44% was achieved. |
