Synthesis and properties of cellulose acetate butyrate-based waterborne polyurethane dispersions |

A cellulose acetate butyrate-based waterborne polyurethane (CAB-WPU) dispersions were synthesized. The prepolymer was prepared using polyester diol, isophorone diisocyanate, and dimethylolpropionic acid. Thereafter, various CAB content and prepolymer were grafted and neutralization and water dispersion steps were performed. The chemical structures of CAB-WPU were characterized by using FTIR. The increase in the CAB content increased the particle size and viscosity of the dispersions. In addition, films were prepared by casting CAB-WPU and the effect of CAB was studied. The incorporation of CAB into the polyurethane backbone has improved mechanical properties and thermal stability and water resistance of films. |
