Cellulose mixed esters (CME), substituted by different aliphatic chains, are polymers with interesting properties. Alpha cellulose was activated for 2h at 40℃ in deionized water prior to synthesis. Homogeneous esterification of cellulose was accomplished with various saturated fatty acids and acetic anhydride in lithium chloride/N,N-dimethylacetamide (LiCl/DMAc) medium. Cellulose mixed esters (CME) were obtained after 5 h at 140℃. The purified products were characterized. The influence of activation and length of fatty chain on the total degree of substitution and on the ratio of acetyl/fatty acyl ester functions was investigated. |
