Partially substituted Cs salt of heteropolytungstate, Cs2.5H0.5PW12O40(Cs2.5) supported on mesoporous silica, SiO2 (Cs2.5/SiO2) was synthesized by a wet impregnation method and characterized by using X-ray diffraction, BET Technique, infrared spectra (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and nitrogen adsorption-desorption. The 50wt% Cs2.5/SiO2 showed higher catalytic activity toward esterification of oleic acid and transesterification of tributyrin than the parent Cs2.5 simultaneously. The obtained results illustrate that the higher activity of this catalyst is because of the better accessibility of the reactants to acid sites which is facilitated by the higher surface areas. |
