Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, one of the cyanobacteria, has attracted great attention as novel microbial cell factory. For more biomass and biofuel, studies on faster growth and higher metabolism of Synechocystis have been tried in terms of growth condition control as well as genetic engineering aspects. In this study, Synechocystis was cultured by introducing electricity and compared with that was not introduced electricity. As a result, the culture with electricity showed higher chlorophyll a concentration and produced more products than the culture without electricity. This result suggests that introducing electricity contributed to redox power used for various metabolic pathway in Synechocystis. Thus, electricity-introduced cultivation will be highly likely to be a strategy for enhancing the value of Synechocystis as a promising cell factory. |
