Effect of O2 ion-beam treatment of TiO2 film electrode and 1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium iodide incorporated polymer electrolytes for enhanced performance of dye-sensitized solar cells. |

Oxygen vacancy related surface defects on porous TiO2 (anatatse) can be well controlled by treatment of TiO2 film with oxygen. The effect of O2 ion beam treatment of TiO2 film and with addition of ionic liquid into poly(ethylene glycol) based polymeric electrolytes are studied with the objective of improving the performance of DSSCs. FE-SEM images shows more smooth surface and contact angle result indicates more hydrophilic nature of TiO2film with O2 ion beam treatment. UV-Visible spectra shows more dye adsorbed on TiO2 film. This increase suggests that the oxygen vacancies in TiO2 electrode are effectively reduced. Polymer electrolytes containing different ratios of 1-propyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide (PMII) also shows improved performance of DSSCs. The ionic conductivity increased with increasing amount of PMII. With the O2 ion beam treatment of TiO2 electrode photoconversion efficiency increased by 8%~10%. |
