Monodisperse polymer are used for many purposes, including instrument calibration standards, filter pore size and efficiency determination criteria, column packing materials for chromatographic separation, and biochemical support materials. Techniques have been developed for the direct preparation of polymer dispersions of controlled particle size. Dispersion polymerization is an example of such techniques. In the dispersion polymerization process, there is a difference in monomer and polymer solubility in the reaction medium. Therefore, as the polymerization progresses, a homogeneous reaction system forms polymeric particles and become heterogeneous. In this study, we reports RAFT dispersion polymerization of vinyl acetate to control the molecular weight and particle size at the same time. The effects of medium polarity and concentration of monomer, initiator, and CTA were investigated. |
