We fabricated smart surfaces that can be switched between superhydrophobic and superhyrophilic state by visible light. For this purpose, we first prepared a rough surface on a silicon wafer by using the layer-by-layer deposition (LBL) by immersion of the substrate into PAH and PSS with SiO2 nanoparticles having diameter of ~ 11nm. Then, LBL was further performed by immersion into PSS and a colloid solution with gold nanoparticles having diameter of ~13 nm. Then, we fabricated visible light-responsive surface by the coupling reaction between thiol terminated-poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and gold nanoparticles. We found that the surface wettability was changed by utilizing chain conformation of PNIPAM through heat arising from photothermal effect of Au NPs in the presence of visible light. |
