New Formulation and Characterization on Complex of Losartan Potassium and Atorvastatin Calcium |

Recently, the complex formulation of two drugs is being actively. In this study, atorvastatin calcium and losartan potassium were used as model drugs of the complex formulation. Atorvastatin calcium (AT) was the immediate layer and losartan potassium (LP) was the extended layer. AT is a BCS II class drug with low solubility in water and high permeability. Thus, it was prepared as a solid dispersion by spray drying method to improve the solubility. LP had a short half-life time. Thereby, it was prepared as the extended layer by wet granulation method. The characterization was analyzed by SEM, PXRD, FT-IR and DSC. HPLC was conducted to confirm the dissolution behavior of the complex tablets. Batch 1 and 3 showed the best release behavior. This study suggests the new complex formulation with the immediate release layer (AT) and the extended release layer (LP).
