Towards 100% Bio-based Copolyester Production: Case of Sugar-based PTT Synthesis |

Bio-based plastics as promising sustainable alternatives to oil-based ones are getting major concerns of emerging bio-based economy. Among them bio-copolyesters are leading the commodity plastic market by accepting bio-based comonomers such as ethylene, PDO and isosorbide etc as aliphatic moities. On the contrary aromatic molecules are under study either by synthesizing bio-based terephthalate or adopting cyclic furanics as replacements. Recently muconic acid derived synthesis of terephthalte has been competing with p-xylene derived synthesis of TPA as core monomers of PET and PTT imposing the potential of 100% bio-based copolysters. |
