Photovoltaic performance of hybrid solar cells with Ti3C2-MXene-based counter electrodes |

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are substances with a thickness of a few nanometers or less. Electrons in these materials are free to move in the two-dimensional plane. In this study, 2D materials such as graphene and MXene were applied for replacing expensive Pt in hybrid solar cells (HSCs) with a basic configuration of glass/F-doped tin oxide (FTO)/TiO2:N719dye:I-/I3- electrolyte/platinized FTO/glass. A HSC with graphene-coated FTO layer as counter electrode showed a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.86%, resulting from 17.77 mA/cm2 of the short-circuit current, 0.586 V of the open-circuit voltage and 46.83 % of fill factor. Meanwhile, a PCE of 5.55 % (Jsc = 18.76 mA/cm2, Voc = 0.638 V, and FF = 46.35 %) was achieved, when a graphene/Ti3C2 MXene-coated FTO was applied as counter electrode of HSC. |
