Effect of Guided Bone Regeneration Using Cross-linked Membrane in Rat Calvarial Defect |

This study is aimed to develop a novel membrane with an appropriate mechanical property and degradation rate for guided bone regeneration. Gellan gum(GG) membrane was fabricated and its mechanical behavior as well as biodegradation property were investigated. The new bone formation potency of the gellan gum in membranes were evaluated in a defect rat calvarial. In the experimental group (n=10), the Gellan gum membrane was used to cover the bony defect, and in the control group (n=10), a resorbable collagen membrane (LyoPlant) was used. In the negative control group (n=10), no membrane was used. In each group, five animals were euthanized at 3, 6 weeks after surgery. Then, the new bone was confirmed by histological examination. We concluded that the Gellan gum membrane has significant potential as a guided bone regeneration membrane. |
