Waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) have been designed based on different types of soft segment, viz. poly(2,4-diethyl-1,5-pentamethylene adipate) glycol (PDPAd) and poly(2,4-diethyl-1,5-pentamethylene-1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylate) glycol (PDPAc). PDPAc were synthesized with 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (1,4-CHDA) and 2,4-diethyl-1,5-pentamethylene. PUDs were modified with fluoro surfactant (BA-N fluoroalcohol). Hydrolytic stability and surface angle were analyzed by low temperature & humidity test chamber and static contact angle. It was found that PDPAc segments improve hydrolytic stability. Contact angle was increased with the addition of fluoro surfactant. PDPAd segments based PUD showed great contact angle than PDPAc segments based PUD. In addition, the cycloaliphatic polyester based polyol provided PUD with a greater mechanical properties compared with the linear aliphatic polyester based polyol. |
