Polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams have the cyclotrimerization of isocyanate groups in polyurethane matrix. PIR foams are superior to polyurethane (PUR) foams for the flame resistance and mechanical properties. PIR foams were prepared from polyol, diisocyanate, silicone surfactant, catalysts, flame retardant and blowing agents. In the preparation of the PIR foams, four kinds of silicone materials as liquid-type additives were used. The effects of liquid-type additives on the thermal conductivity, mechanical properties and cell size of the PIR foams were investigated. Properties of the PIR foams were obtained by thermal conductivity analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and universal testing machine (UTM). In the results, when the liquid-type additives were added, the cell size and thermal conductivity of the PIR foams were decreased. Also, when the liquid-type additives were added, flexural and compression strengths of the PIR foams were increased. |
