A study of bio-based elastomer/epoxidized natural rubber–silica filler interaction on tensile properties and dynamic properties |

This study compares the interaction of silica filler to the blend of NR and SBR as well as to the blend of ENR and bio-based SBR modified with epoxidized soyabean oil. Two sets of sample were compounded for this research. The first set of sample compares the pysico-chemical properties of SBR-NR-silica to SBR-ENR-silica. Whereas in second set of sample the comparison was done between bio-based SBR-NR-silica and bio-based SBR-ENR-silica. The structural analysis of the samples by GPC, FTIR, NMR indicates the formation of new bond between silica and epoxy functional group of SBR and ENR. The sample modified with bio-based SBR, and ENR show increased tensile properties and storage modulus as confirmed from mechanical property and DMA measurement. The thermal properties were also found to increase for bio-based elastomeric samples. These improvements were onserved due to formation of a strong bonding between silica to bio-based SBR and ENR. |
