Magnetic gelatin nanoparticles were prepared by in situ precipitation of magnetic particles in presence of gelatin followed by desolvation and cross-linking. Extensive characterization by SEM, TEM, DLS, TGA, IR and XRD shows complete encapsulation of magnetic iron oxides of size about 8nm into gelatin nanoparticles. The hydrodynamic size of the nanoparticle can be controlled by desolvating agent and cross-linking agent, while concentration of bound magnetic iron oxide can be controlled by controlling the gelatin to iron chloride solution ratio.
