Poly(azomethine-co-urethane)s (PAUs) were synthesized from poly (tetramethylene ether) glycol (PTMEG) and 4,4-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and 1,4-butane diol (BDO) together with azomethine diol as chain extenders. The azomethine diol synthesized from Jeffamine-D230 and vanillin as well as PAU polymers were characterized with FT-IR, NMR spectroscopies and the mechanical, thermal and rheological properties were investigated. It was found that the thermal stabilities of PAUs were improved and the Tg of soft segment increased with increasing the azomethine diol content. Young’s modulus was increased with increasing the azomethine diol fraction. In the rheological studies, the viscosity of PAUs were decreased with increasing azomethine diol content above 160℃. The decrease of viscosity implies that dissociation of urethane unit formed phenolic hydroxyl group and isocyanate group. The reversible nature of the urethane units in the PAU was confirmed in FT-IR spectra. |
