제목 Effect of the shielding gas on the additive manufacturing of tool steel for die casting mold
초록 Due to the trends of international environmental regulations, the automobile industries are becoming focused on manufacturing lighter-weight vehicles to get higher energy efficiency. Following the trends, the aluminum alloy chassis and parts are getting more attention during the decades. To make the aluminum parts, a die casting process is usually applied and the molds are necessary which made up of the tool steels. In general, the molds are fabricated by the machining of massive billets of tool steel, but it has drawbacks such as a large amount of material loss and long-term delivery time. Meanwhile, a Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process could be one of the alternative fabrication methods. It has advantages that a less amount of material loss, a short-delivery time by the faster manufacturing speed, modifiability, and a chance to make a complex shaped or reinforced mold using dissimilar materials. But there are almost none of precedent researches regarding the WAAM of tool steels for die-casting mold though it has high potentials and advantages. In this research, the effect of the shielding gas on additive manufacturability of tool steel is discussed, as a first step for the WAAM of die casting molds.
