In the present study, gastro retentive floating drug delivery system(GRDDS) of acyclovir, an antiviral drug having a short biological half life have been designed to evaluate effect on swelling and dissolution behavior. acyclovir floating tablets were prepared by direct compression method by employing different grades of polymers such as HPMC K4M, K15M, K100M, carbopol 940 and CMC-Na and evaluated weight variation, floating time, swelling index and dissolution rate. Swelling index increased as increasing in HPMC grade but was not increased by carbopol 940 content. Therefore, the swelling behavior in GRDDS can be expected to be controlled by optimizing hydrophilic polymer ratio. |
