Polystyrene have been widely used for the insulations, packaging, and electronic parts. End-epoxidized polysulfide was employed to synthesize a hardener of polystyrene by the reaction with acrylic acid. Suspension polymerizations of the hardener and styrene monomer were carried out to prepare the self-healable crosslinked polystyrene. Epoxidized polysulfide have disulfide linkages that can reversibly do exchange reaction. In this study, in order to investigate the effect of hardener concentration on the self-healing efficiency of the crosslinked polystyrene, the concentration of the hardener was varied. To characterize the self-healing properties of cross-linked polystyrene, stress relaxation test was performed with DMA as well as swelling test and rheological measurements. Mechanical properties are also investigated with UTM and DMA.Thermal properties are studied with DSC and TGA. It was found that the concentration of hardener affects the self-healing efficiency significantly. |
