Wastewater produced in the form of o/w emulsion is difficult to be treated properly owing to its complex behavior. To acquire informations for the optimization of emulsion controlling process, the interfacial features of emulsion system have been investigated in this work. Surface tension is found to be decreased as the increase in oil content and contact angle is influenced by the hydrophobicity of substrate. The work of adhesion of emulsion for substrates with different degree of hydrophobicity has been estimated from the contact angle and surface tension. Temperature and pH have a strong influence on the turbidity and surface tension and it si observed that electrophoretic characteristics of oil droplets is closely related with turbidity. Also, effects of the content of inorganic salts and surfactant on the electrokinetic property of emulsion have been considered. The influence of coagulant on stability is discussed through the calculation of potential energy of interaction between oil droplets. |
