TiO2/CdS nanorods structure for high efficiency photoelectrochemical cell electrode for hydrogen production |

Branched TiO2/CdS nanorods structure was fabricated by wet chemical method for use as a photoelectrode in hydrogen generation system. In this method, branched TiO2 nanorods were grown directly on conducting glass substrates (FTO) via low – cost hydrothermal method followed by chemical bath deposition (CBD) of CdS layer. The morphologies and composition of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The photovoltaic performance of the branched TiO2/CdS electrodes in photoelectrochemical cell was evaluated by ability of water splitting with three-electrode configuration. The CdS sensitization and large surface area of the branched nanorods structure produced high photocurrent density and efficiency for hydrogen generation are up to 13 mA/cm2 and 4.68%, respectively. |
