Recently, biodiesel (Fatty acid methyl esters) production from microalgae has drawn attention to replace the petroleum-based diesel because microalgae have high lipid contents. Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is neutral, odorless, cheap, non-corrosive, non-toxic solvent and can be used as the acyl acceptor. In this study, biodiesel was synthesized from Dunaliella tertiolecta using two-step and in-situ methods. In the two-step method, total lipids were completely extracted using DMC together with methanol, and then the extracted lipids were synthesized to FAMEs using lipase. In the in-situ procedure, biodiesel was simultaneously synthesized by lipase in the presence of DMC. Two biodiesel production methods were compared based on overall yield and productivity. |
