Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained interest as a candidate for water purification, with their microporosity and tunable functionality for adsorbing water contaminants. Here, MOF membrane adsorbers supported by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) are described, focusing on their dye removal performance as well as their enhanced mechanical properties by PTFE. For the fabrication, MOFs with various functional groups are synthesized in between PTFE chains. Structural and surface analysis revealed that MOF structures grown in the polymer matrix expose more functional groups for dye adsorption, leading to enhanced efficiency compared with conventional MOF-polymer mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs). |
