Natural dye has been extensively investigated to replace due to the cytotoxic side effects of synthetic dyes in the hair dye. However, the natural dye has also limitations such as vivid color, durability, hair dyeing time, and requirements of heavy metal mordant. Then, this study is to investigate dopamine (DA) with genipin (GP) as a natural dye to improve the speed of hair dyeing, durability and to reduce the toxicity of dyeing. The hair dyed with DA and GP were characterized by colorimeter measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), durability test, and crystal violet assay. The obtained results indicated that DA and GP successfully dyed blond hair to black within 10 min. It improved the color of hair and the durability. In conclusion, GP significantly affected the DA-based hair dyeing process and, Therefore, this study suggests that GP is a promising candidate for DA-based hair dyeing. |
