Preparation and Characterization of PU/PVDF/CNT Electroactive Shape Memory Composites |

The electro active polymers (EAPs) received relatively little attention due to the small number of available materials and their limited actuation capability. Shape memory PU/PVDF/CNT nanocomposite has the capability to regain their original shape upon application. In the present study, the influence of surface functionalized carbon nanotubes on the properties of the PU/PVDF/CNT composites has been investigated. The modulus and stress at 100% elongation increases with increasing MWCNT content. The micro structure and the fine dispersion of carbon nanotube in the PU/PVDF composites have been examined by FESEM and TEM. The thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of the composite have been characterized by DMA and TGA. Electroactive shape recovery has been observed for MWCNT filled PU/PVDF composites with energy conversion efficiency. Hence, PU/PVDF/CNT composites may prove promising candidate for use as shape memory actuators. |
