During the last decade, interests in natural substances instead of artificial chemicals have been steadily increased and research has been conducted on the use of natural products for biomaterials. Green tea extract contains various components, including epigallocatechin (EGC), gallocatechin (GC), and gallocatechin gallate (ECG), which are useful for human health. In this study, we extracted catechin from green tea leaves and investigated the effect of catechin on the growth of bone cells and the inhibition of osteoclast activity. Our study illustrated that catechin can be of a great help for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, which is a lethal disease to the elderly people. |
