Highly Active Zn-Co Double Metal Cyanide Catalyst for Ring-opening Polymerization of Propylene Oxide |

Double metal cyanide (DMC) catalysts are highly active heterogeneous catalysts in the field of epoxide polymerization. Several studies have been focused to develop different DMC catalysts by reacting aqueous solutions of metal salts and metal cyanide salts in the presence of an alcohol-based complexing agent (CA) (e.g., isopropyl alcohol, tert-butyl alcohol). Recently we have investigated the effect of ether-based CAs (ETs) for DMC catalyst. A series of Zn-Co DMC catalysts bearing ETs were prepared. Their catalytic activities for the ring-opening polymerization of propylene oxide were tested to elucidate the effect of these CAs on the active sites. The prepared catalysts were characterized by structural sensitive analysis. Compared with conventional CAs, the ETs produced DMC catalysts with higher catalytic activity. The unsaturation level, molecular weight and particularly the polydispersity of the resulting polyols are also studied. |
