Edge-functionalized graphite via a simple and eco-friendly ball milling |

Low-cost, high-yield production of graphene nanosheets (GNs) is essential for practical applications. High yield of edge-selectively functionalized graphite (EFG) by a simple ball milling of pristine graphite in the presence of corresponding reactants is to be conducted. Among many potential applications ranging from electronic materials to chemical catalysts, these stable EFG dispersions in various media have been achieved. As a demonstration, large-area GN films were formed by solution casting coupled with thermal annealing. The electrical conductivity of the films was as high as 1214 S/cm, which is superior to its GO (graphite oxide) counterparts. Ball milling can thus provide simple, but efficient and versatile, and eco-friendly approaches to low-cost mass production of high-quality GNs for applications where GOs have been exploited and beyond. |
